Victims Robbed At Gunpoint During ‘Car Sale' Transactions: Hamden PD
Police said the victims were robbed while meeting someone for fraudulent car sale transactions that were listed on social media platforms.
HAMDEN, CT — Police are investigating two armed robberies at gunpoint that took place the past two days during fraudulent “car sale” transactions, according to police.
The robberies took place July 11 and 12 on Giles Street and Helen Street during the afternoon and early evening hours, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan.
Dolan said the victims were meeting someone regarding fraudulent “car sale” transactions that were listed on various social media platforms.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are actively investigating the robberies, according to Dolan.

The Hamden Police Department is reminding the community of “some very important crime-prevention safety tips” regarding these types of transactions:
- Understand that some seller profiles or listings on social media may be fraudulent.
- Meet in a public place, preferably well-lit and with security cameras.
- Have someone with you during any sale transactions.
- Do not carry large amounts of cash or any other valuables on your person.
- If you sense trouble, leave the area as quick as possible.
