MIDDLETOWN — The Xavier Falcons football team rang the final bell against the Hamden Dragons with a 28-7 victory Friday night at Palmer Field in Middletown.

Xavier sped up its offense in the third quarter, led by quarterback Collin McCarthy, who connected with wide receiver Parker Rowley for a 33-yard touchdown. The Falcons’ only passing touchdown represented the last points that were scored for either team.

Hamden’s lone scoring drive came in the second quarter. Senior captain Angelo DiMonaco took the ball in the backfield from Green Dragon QB Stanley Arlington Jr. and found space up the field and ran past a few Xavier defenders for the score. It was followed by a successful extra-point kick.
The Green Dragons struggled to get their offense rolling against the aggressive Xavier frontline.
Defensively, Hamden forced a season-high four fumbles in the game with two coming on the same possession.
Senior defensive lineman Herbie Bagwell recorded two takeaways.
There was a scary moment in the second quarter when Hamden’s Conrad Jones needed medical attention on the field. Jones clearly had agonizing pain he his left leg. Fortunately, Conrad was able to walk off the field with the help of medical personnel.
