Winter Team State Title History: Hamden, Sacred Heart Academy

HAMDEN, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.

To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the 22 CIAC winter team titles won by Hamden High School and Sacred Heart Academy in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).

Hamden

• boys ice hockey (17) - Div. I: 2010, 2009, 1989, 1986, 1976, 1975, 1974, 1973, 1971, 1970, 1968, 1967, 1966, 1965, 1952, 1950, 1948
• boys swimming (2) - State Open: 1974; Class LL: 1974
• boys indoor track (1) - Class LL: 2010

Sacred Heart Academy

• girls basketball (2) - Class L: 1993, 1992
