Woman Assaults Owner In Fight Over Sandwich At Krauszer’s: Police

Hamden Police say a woman upset over the price of a sandwich, yelled at the clerk and eventually assaulted the owner with a belt.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven woman who was upset over the price of a sandwich at Krauszer’s is accused of yelling at the clerk and trying to leave the store without paying for the sandwich and later assaulting the store’s owner with a belt, according to police. A man who was with her is also accused of punching the store owner and police are still looking for him.

The assault took place at about 3 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the Krauszer’s Food Store, located at 36 Fairview Avenue in Hamden. The woman, Regina Solomon, was upset about the price of the sandwich and went behind the deli counter and began yelling at the clerk about the amount of meat in the sandwich, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Solomon and an unidentified man then tried to leave the store without paying for the sandwich and a calzone and the store owner attempted to intervene, according to Smith. To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.

Smith said Solomon subsequently “grabbed a belt off the rack” and began hitting him multiple times. The unidentified man, who is described as a tall black male with braided hair, punched the store owner numerous times, Smith said. The store owner sustained injuries to his arms and hands.

Solomon was identified by Officer Jennifer King and as arrested.

Solomon, 32, of 37 Wayfarer Street in New Haven, was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree assault and sixth-degree larceny. She was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Oct. 2.
