Woman’s Wallet Stolen From Vehicle While She Pumped Gas: Hamden Police

A woman's wallet was stolen out of her vehicle while she was pumping gas in Hamden, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A woman’s wallet was stolen out of her vehicle while she was pumping gas Friday morning in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded to All Town Fresh at 1941 Dixwell Avenue around 9:30 a.m. on July 1 on the report of a theft from a motor vehicle, according to Lt. Anthony Diaz.

An investigation found that the victim ws pumping gas when a silver SUV pulled up along the other side of her vehicle, according to Diaz.

Diaz said a suspect dressed in dark clothing with a dark hoodie over his head and face, got out of the driver’s seat, ducked down and walked over to the victim’s vehicle.

The suspect then opened the passenger side door of the victim’s vehicle and stole her wallet from the front passenger seat, according to Diaz.

Diaz said the suspect then walked slowly back to his vehicle and drove away in an unknown direction.

Police are providing the following safety tips when fueling your vehicle at a service station:

  • Always remove your keys and lock the doors while you are pumping gas
  • Keep valuables out of plain view in your vehicle
  • And always be aware of your surroundings
