World-Renowned Mummy Expert to Lecture at Quinnipiac
Dr. Sahar Saleem will present the lecture Dec. 8 in Hamden.

Dr. Sahar Saleem, a radiologist who is a world-renowned mummy expert, will present the lecture, “CT of Royal Ancient Egyptian Mummies: An Approach to Study,” at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, in the Mount Carmel Auditorium in the Center for Communications and Engineering on theMount Carmel Campus of Quinnipiac University. This event is free and open to the public.
Saleem has a special interest in paleopathology, the study of diseases in archaeology. She has studied several royal ancient Egyptian mummies, using multi-detector computed tomography as part of the Egyptian Mummy Project of the Supreme Council of Antiquity in Egypt. She also has studied the mummies of pharaohs and queens of ancient Egypt.

Saleem studied medicine at the Kasr Al-Ainy School of Medicine of Cairo University. She earned a master’s degree and medical doctorate in radiology from Cairo University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuroradiology and a fellowship in radiology education at University of Western Ontario.

Created in 1998, the Bioanthropology Research Institute conducts research in biology, archaeology, anthropology and paleopathology through paleoimaging applications including diagnostic imaging, video endoscopy, photography and laboratory analysis. The research is conducted on mummified humans and animals and ancient artifacts without destruction. The co-directors collaborate with bioanthropological researchers from around the globe. The institute conducts workshops, gives presentations and conducts field paleoimaging research worldwide.
