Wydra Appointed Acting Police Chief In Hamden
The town will conduct a "wide search with input from the community" as it chooses its new Police Chief, according to Mayor Lauren Garrett.

HAMDEN, CT — Deputy Police Timothy Wydra has been appointed Acting Chief of Police, effective May 17, Mayor Lauren Garrett announced Tuesday.
Wydra was appointed to the position due to the retirement of Chief John Sullivan, who served 27 years as a member of the Hamden Police.

Wydra received his Associate of Science with High Honors in Criminal Justice – Law Enforcement Administration from the University of New Haven in 2006, and further went on to receive his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Public Safety Administration from Charter Oak State College in 2013. He also attended the F.B.I. National Academy, 242nd Session, in 2010.
Wydra has served the Hamden Police Department for the past 29 years as Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Deputy Chief of Police.

"Wydra is a highly accomplished law enforcement leader with an incredible wealth of experience," according to the news release. "He has a proven track record as SWAT Team Commander, Hostage Negotiation Unit Commander, Field Training Officer Program Coordinator, Active Shooter Instructor, and Less Lethal Instructor."
“Thank you Chief Sullivan for your many years of service to the Hamden Police,” Garrett said. "I am confident our Department will be in good hands with Acting Chief Wydra. Over the coming months we will conduct a wide search with input from the community as we choose our new Chief of Police."
