Young Valentines Dance the Night Away

Sacred Heart Academy's Alumnae Association hosted its third annual Little Valentine's Day Dance Friday night.

Children dressed in their Valentine’s Day finest laughed and danced to the music at the third annual Little Valentine’s Day Dance at Sacred Heart Academy.

The dance, hosted by the school's Alumnae Association, raises scholarship money for Sacred Heart Academy students.

“The alumnae like to stay connected and they really, really care about the students that want to come here and they care that the school continues and becomes always better,” said Sister Mariette Moan, director of the Alumnae Association at Sacred Heart Academy. “Our motto is excelsior, which is a word that means, ‘ever higher.’ So we’re committed to excellence in whatever way that we can.”

This year tickets were $5 for children and $7 for adults. According to Moan, the event sold more than three hundred tickets.

Aside from a wide variety of music ranging from Justin Bieber’s “Baby” to the “Hokey Pokey,” there was food, raffles, a professional photographer and volunteers to watch the children.

The key to a great event, according to Moan, is “friend-raising” not fund raising. She believes the dance is so popular because it’s a fun and low cost event that parents can enjoy too.

“We’re also interested in giving the parents a relaxing evening. Once they get here, we have forty student volunteers on. They’re on the floor with the kids dancing; they’re assisting the photographer. So after the kids eat, the parents can just relax,” Moan said.

According to Moan, the Alumnae Association usually hosts one event each month. They are currently planning a March Madness party for next month.
