3 Students Struck, 1 Killed In Hartford Hit-And-Run Crash

One college student was killed and two others were injured in a hit-and-run wreck late Thursday night.

HARTFORD, CT — Three Trinity students were struck by a car that fled the scene late Thursday night, according to WTNH News-8. Jillian Hegarty, 20, was killed in the hit-and-run crash.

Police said the accident occurred just after 11:30 p.m. on New Britain Avenue, according to WTNH News-8.

The students were crossing the street when they were struck by an SUV that then fled, according to FOX 61.

All three women were rushed to the hospital, where Hegarty was pronounced dead. A 19-year-old is listed in critical condition. A 2o-year-old suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital.

The crash was caught on camera. Police were searching for a gray 2004-2007 Volkswagen Touareg with a missing license plate and a front bumper. The vehicle also has a roof rack. (UPDATE: The car was located in New Haven Friday afternoon, WFSB 3 TV reported.)

In a statement on Facebook, Trinity College wrote the school is "deeply saddened by the profound and tragic loss of our classmate and friend...Our hearts go out to the Hegarty family and to our students. The college is working to provide all available resources to support our campus community and we ask that you respect the privacy of those affected. We are grateful to the Hartford Police Department as they investigate this incident."

This is Hartford's fourth fatal crash of 2022, according to FOX 61.
