1 Woman Killed, 1 Woman Injured In Hartford Shooting: Police

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a New Britain woman dead and another woman injured Wednesday night in the city.

Officers responded to the area of 149 Magnolia St. after receiving a ShotSpotter notification indicating possible gunfire, according to the Hartford Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found a parked vehicle with an unresponsive woman in the driver's seat suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the deceased as Diana Tirado, 45, of New Britain.

Investigators also found a second woman on a nearby sidewalk with a gunshot wound.

The victim, described by police as a woman in her 30s, was transported to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.

During the course of the investigation, a suspect was developed, police said. Through investigative means, the suspect was determined to be staying in a hotel room in Holyoke, Massachusetts, police said.

Members of the Hartford Police Major Crimes Division, Massachusetts State Police, and the Holyoke Police Department responded to the hotel. The hotel was evacuated, with the exception of the suspect’s room, police said. Massachusetts State Police established contact with the suspect in an attempt to negotiate his surrender.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the room and refused to exit, police said. After a several-hour standoff, it was learned that the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions continue to investigate this incident.

Police said the case remains active and ongoing.
