2003 Cold Case Hartford Murder Conviction Made
A man was convicted of fatally shooting another man in 2003.
HARTFORD, CT — A Hartman man was convicted of a nearly 16-year-old murder that took place in the city.
Rafael Ortiz was found guilty during a jury trial of fatallying shooting Benjamin Baez on June 11, 2003. Baez was sitting in a car on Main Street in Hartford at the time of the shooting.
Ortiz was arrested in October 2017 by Hartford detectives assigned to the Cold Case/Shooting Task Force Unit with the Office of the Chief State's Attorney.

Baez will be sentenced to between 25 and life in prison.
