Hartford Arts Group, CT Science Center Partner On Science Film Series

HARTFORD, CT — Real Art Ways will partner with the Connecticut Science Center to host its “Science on Screen” film series across Hartford while its cinema undergoes expansion construction.

The 2026 series will include six events pairing films with talks on science, technology, and medicine.

Screenings and discussions will be held at venues around the city, including the Connecticut Science Center at 250 Columbus Blvd.

“We’re honored to host Science on Screen … and to support Real Art Ways during this exciting period of growth and transformation,” said Matt Fleury, president and CEO of the Connecticut Science Center.

He said the collaboration aims to engage the community through film and scientific discussion.

The program, launched in 2005 at the Coolidge Corner Theatre with support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, brings scientists and experts into movie theaters to discuss research alongside screenings. Real Art Ways has participated since 2011.

The series opens April 25 at 3 p.m. with “Proforestation: Letting Forests Grow Old,” followed by a talk from Susan Masino, a Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of Applied Science at Trinity College.

Masino has published research on proforestation and its links to climate stabilization, biodiversity, and public health, and has advocated for preserving older forests in Hartford.

Additional screenings are scheduled through November: “My Octopus Teacher” (June 13), “Bringing Up Baby” (July 18), “Point Break” (Aug. 15), “Agent of Happiness” (Oct. 17), and “WALL-E” (Nov. 7). All events begin at 3 p.m.

Organizers said each event will feature a speaker introducing current research or technological developments tied to the film.

General admission is $12, with discounts for members, seniors, and students.

The partnership shifts the series into shared community venues while Real Art Ways completes its theater project.
