(Hartford, CT) Connecticut has been ranked the #1 state in the nation for patient safety, according to the newly released Spring 2026 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades.
An impressive 64.3% of Connecticut hospitals earned an “A” grade, the highest distinction awarded by Leapfrog, placing the state at the top nationally for hospital safety performance.
In total, 18 hospitals across Connecticut, spanning academic medical centers, teaching hospitals, community hospitals, and rural institutions, achieved the highest possible safety rating, reflecting a level of statewide consistency unmatched across the country.
“I could not be prouder of this level of achievement we’re seeing across our state,” said Jeff Flaks, President and CEO, Hartford HealthCare. “This major milestone is a true reflection of thousands of clinicians, caregivers, and support teams showing up every day with a singular focus: delivering safe, high‑quality care for every patient, every time. From academic and teaching hospitals to community and rural institutions, this level of consistency doesn’t happen by chance. It’s built on a culture where safety is foundational, not a program, not a priority that shifts, but a value that guides every decision and every action.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a nationally recognized measure that evaluates hospitals on more than 30 key performance indicators, including infection rates, medication safety, surgical outcomes, and staffing practices.
“Excellence in healthcare demands continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability across the entire system,” Flaks added. “Connecticut’s ranking is something to celebrate, but more importantly, it’s something to build on.”
Connecticut’s top ranking recognizes the collective commitment of healthcare organizations and professionals statewide to transparency, quality improvement, and patient-centered care.
