📰 News we're reading

1. Hartford Fentanyl Dealer Sentenced To Federal Prison: Feds (patch.com) — Hartford residents are learning more about a major fentanyl trafficking case that led to a 6.75-year federal prison sentence for 36-year-old Tyshawn Coleman. Investigators say Coleman and his brother sold fentanyl and crack cocaine in Hartford, with controlled buys, a Main Street shooting, and a Sisson Avenue apartment search uncovering drugs, firearms, and cash, all capped by a conviction in U.S. District Court in Hartford.

2. Hartford Animal Control may euthanize healthy dogs as dumping crisis fills kennels (wfsb.com) — Hartford Animal Control says its kennels are so full of dumped dogs that, for the first time in about a decade, healthy animals may have to be euthanized. Officers report dogs abandoned in Hartford cemeteries and Keney Park, and are urgently asking residents to adopt or share adoption posts. Dogs cost $50 and come with a medical voucher to offset vet expenses.

3. Hartford Public Schools face $89M deficit, district seeks state support and structural changes (fox61.com) — Hartford Public Schools are staring at an $89 million deficit over the next two years, even after new state and city funding, and may seek state oversight to stabilize finances. District leaders warn a large shortfall remains, raising concerns about staffing, student support services, and food programs. Officials say they want long-term investment while keeping local control of school decisions.

4. Connecticut officials issue safety reminders for 2026 Motorcycle Awareness Month (wtnh.com) — From Hartford, state transportation officials and police are urging both drivers and riders to take extra care during Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month after at least 16 riders have died on Connecticut roads this year. They’re stressing shared responsibility, from checking blind spots and avoiding distractions to wearing bright gear and full-face helmets, as local dealerships report rising motorcycle interest.
