Governor’s Residence Open To The Public (And Free Ice Cream Too)

HARTFORD, CT — Connecticut residents and visitors will have an opportunity to tour the Governor’s Residence in Hartford on Saturday, June 13, as part of Connecticut Open House Day, Gov. Ned Lamont announced.

The residence, located at 990 Prospect Ave., will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is free, and no tickets are required. Volunteer guides will lead tours throughout the day, and the building is accessible to visitors with disabilities.

Built in 1909, the state-owned residence is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has served as the home of every Connecticut governor since 1945.

The building is also used for official state functions.

Visitors touring the residence will be able to view artwork on loan from the New Britain Museum of American Art and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art.

A dining room table setting will be provided by The Weekend Home, an Avon-based home furnishings business.

Floral arrangements for the event will be provided by the West Hartford Garden Club, the Garden Club of Hartford and Elizabeth Park.

Visitors will also receive complimentary ice cream donated by Oak Ridge Dairy of Ellington.

Parking will be available along Belknap Road across from the residence.

Parking will not be permitted on the property grounds. Bags, briefcases and packages will be subject to security screening.

CT Open House Day

The event is part of Connecticut Open House Day, an annual statewide tourism initiative that encourages residents and visitors to explore cultural, historical and recreational attractions across the state.

More than 200 attractions, including museums, historic sites, farms, restaurants and arts venues, are expected to participate in this year’s event, offering free or discounted admission and other special promotions.
