Firefighter Hurt, 2 Families Displaced After Hartford Fire: HFD

HARTFORD, CT — A fire at a North End duplex on Sunday afternoon displaced two families and left one firefighter with a minor injury, according to the Hartford Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 3:36 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, to a reported working fire at a two-story, multi-family duplex at 100 Theodore Napper Lane.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions on the front, or Alpha, side of the building, the department said.

Initial reports indicated children might still be inside the residence, prompting an immediate search.

Firefighters completed primary and secondary searches of the building and confirmed that no occupants remained inside.

All residents were accounted for, and no civilian injuries were reported, the HFD reported.

The fire was brought under control, though crews remained on scene Sunday conducting overhaul operations. The incident also involved a partial roof collapse, firefighters said.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was receiving treatment, according to the department.

The fire displaced two families consisting of six residents — three adults and three children.

The Hartford Fire Department's Special Services Unit coordinated assistance for the displaced residents with the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross said it provided emergency assistance to the two affected families, including financial support for immediate needs.

The organization also distributed recovery envelopes containing information about fire cleanup, important contacts, and recovering damaged belongings, as well as comfort kits with personal care items.

Red Cross caseworkers are expected to work with the families in the coming days to develop longer-term recovery plans.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hartford Fire Marshal's Office.

The Hartford Fire Department thanked several partner agencies that assisted at the scene, including the Hartford Police Department, AMR ambulance, License & Inspections, Connecticut Natural Gas, Eversource, CERT and the American Red Cross.

"We are grateful that everyone made it out safely," the department said in a statement.
