Officials said the fire was located in a second-floor bedroom of an unoccupied apartment.

Crews brought the bulk of the fire under control within 12 minutes and prevented it from spreading beyond the affected unit.

Primary and secondary searches of the building confirmed that no occupants were inside the apartment where the fire originated, according to the department.

The fire displaced five families, totaling 16 residents, including 13 adults and three children.

Hartford Fire Special Services, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the American Red Cross are assisting those displaced by the fire.

The department said additional support was provided by the Hartford Police Department, the city’s License and Inspections Division, Connecticut Natural Gas and Eversource.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.

Fire officials credited responding crews with quickly containing the blaze and reported that neither civilians nor firefighters were injured.
