MANCHESTER, CT—Since joining Hartford HealthCare on January 1, 2026, Manchester Memorial Hospital and the Rockville Campus have undergone significant transformation through major investments in facilities, equipment, technology, workforce development, enhanced services, community partnerships and expanded access to high-quality care. Hartford HealthCare has committed to investing $300 million in the region and has already begun seeing results and increased trust in the community. In the first six months, the region added 134 new members to the medical staff, increased surgeries by 8%, hospital admission by 6%, and emergency department activity by 5%.
“This isn’t about surviving. This is about thriving. And this is about building something that is at a world-class level,” said Jeffrey A. Flaks, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hartford HealthCare. “Our purpose is to make healthcare better and make it better every day, and we’re just getting started.”
The Greater Manchester Region returned to nonprofit status for the first time in seven years, reinforcing a renewed commitment to serving the health and wellness needs of the community. To better understand local health priorities, Hartford HealthCare conducted a Community Health Needs Assessment, engaging residents, community organizations and stakeholders to identify the region’s most pressing health challenges and opportunities. The findings are now helping shape strategic planning, health improvement initiatives, and community partnerships throughout the region.
Hartford HealthCare’s Greater Manchester Region has also furthered its commitment to rebuilding community connections, programs and traditions. Recent support includes the Manchester Road Race, MACC Charities Housing Stability Assistance Initiative, Rebuilding Together Manchester, Town of Manchester downtown beautification projects, Greater Manchester Chamber, community health clinics and numerous other efforts.
One of the most significant accomplishments was the successful integration of Epic and MyChartPLUS on June 27th.
“We have achieved so much in six months since Hartford HealthCare has been in the Greater Manchester Region,” said Dr. Adam Steinberg, President of Hartford HealthCare’s Greater Manchester Region. “We have the momentum, and now the foundation built on the IT infrastructure that’s linked to Hartford HealthCare.”
The new, upgraded platform connects patients and providers across Hartford HealthCare’s network of care, improving coordination of care, streamlining referrals and enhancing patients’ access to their healthcare information.
“Epic is an epic accomplishment because it’s foundational,” Flaks said. “What it allows us to do now is ensure every resident, every person who comes here for healthcare, has a seamless, safe, frictionless experience.”
In addition to the Epic integration, Hartford HealthCare has made major investments to improve both the patient and caregiver experience, including:
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, who played a key role in supporting the transition, praised the turnaround, its impact on the community and the dedication of local healthcare workers who made it all possible.
“We’re here because Manchester Memorial Hospital is back. And better than ever,” Governor Ned Lamont said. “One reason I think we have the best healthcare system is because of each and every one of you. You are incredibly important to the community, incredibly important to the people you’re fighting for, and the patients you have.”
Accomplishing these milestones in a six-month timeframe required substantial collaboration among Hartford HealthCare colleagues and support teams across the system.
“We are prioritizing the healthcare of the most vulnerable portions of our population,” said Dr. Steinberg. “Our future is incredibly bright. We’re here to celebrate where we will be and where we are going.”
“The best is yet to come,” Flaks concluded. “We will uplift healthcare in this community and bring it to a world-class level. It’s happening every single day.”
