HARTFORD, CT — With congressional and gubernatorial primaries dominating the headlines Tuesday statewide, Connecticut's capital city also had two important Democratic contests being decided, with one incumbent losing the nomination.
For the 2nd State Senate Democratic primary, Hartford voters backed state Rep. Maryam Khan, D-Windsor, in a three-way Democratic state Senate primary.
She will run against Windsor Republican Tim Knots for the State Senate seat in November.
Meanwhile, for the 4th State House Democratic primary, state Rep. Julio Concepcion, D-Hartford, prevailed, according to results provided from Tuesday's primary by the Connecticut Secretary of the State's Office.
There is no endorsed Republican hopeful for the 4th House.
2nd Senate
In earning the nod for a chance to transfer from the House to the Senate, Khan, 38, also defeated the incumbent state senator.
Khan received 710 votes, or 42.01%, in the results for the state Senate contest.
State Sen. Douglas McCrory, D-Hartford, received 608 votes, or 35.98%, while Ayana Taylor received 372 votes, or 22.01%.
Khan received the party endorsement for the Senate race earlier this year.
The embattled McCrory is under federal investigation for fiscal issues related to a nonprofit organization of which he was a director of in Hartford.
This race served Hartford voting precincts 2-9; 11; and 24 and the district covers parts of Bloomfield, Hartford, and Windsor.
4th House
In the Democratic primary for the 4th state House District, Concepcion defeated Venice Sotomayor.
Concepcion received 554 votes, or 67.07%, compared with 272 votes, or 32.93%, for Sotomayor.
Concepcion, a Hartford Democrat and incumbent state representative, had received the party endorsement.T
This race served Hartford voting precincts 19-22,
The 4th House District is composed of parts of Hartford, including neighborhoods like Charter Oak, South Meadows, and Barry.
