EAST HARTFORD, CT — Connecticut State Police arrested a Hartford man after troopers said he was spotted driving the wrong way on Route 2 in East Hartford last week.
Troopers from Troop H were dispatched at about 2:06 a.m. Aug. 19 after receiving a wrong-way driver notification near the Exit 56 entrance ramp to Interstate 84 eastbound, according to state police.
Dispatchers subsequently reported that a dark-colored SUV was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 2, police said.
A short time later, dispatchers told responding troopers that the SUV had corrected its direction of travel near Exit 2D on Route 2 west and was seen leaving the highway at Exit 1A.
Troopers arriving in the area spotted a dark-colored Toyota Highlander coming off the Exit 1A ramp and turning onto Pitkin Street, according to state police.
They followed the SUV and conducted a traffic stop, continuing their investigation in a nearby parking lot.
Police identified the driver as Jimmy Willyan Hares Daza Olivas, 23, of Hartford.
Daza Olivas told troopers he had been in Hartford before getting onto the highway and that his intended destination was also in Hartford, according to state police.
Troopers said they observed signs of possible impairment while speaking with him. Daza Olivas told investigators he had consumed two or more alcoholic beverages before driving, police said.
He agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which police said were not performed to standard.
