House of Bread Receives $50,000 Grant from the CVS Health Foundation

The House of Bread has received an extraordinary $50,000 grant from the CVS Health Foundation to support its highly respected programs addressing food insecurity, homelessness, and education in the North and South Ends of Hartford.

This is the largest grant that the House of Bread has received this year from a corporate foundation.

"This transformative grant will make a huge difference in our ability to continue providing the hot meals, safe housing, and life-changing education programs that our guests and students depend on," said House of Bread Co-Director Beth Boyle. "Given the exorbitant current costs of food and fuel, this support is needed now more than ever. We are deeply grateful to the CVS Health Foundation for their commitment to our mission and their trust in our ability to execute it."

The CVS Health Foundation is investing $1 million in grants through its Hometown Fund to 20 organizations that are making a difference for the Greater Hartford area every day. The grants will support local nonprofits working to increase access to health care, address food insecurity, expand availability of stable housing and increase access to critical community services across the Greater Hartford area.

"Through our Hometown Fund, we focus on communities our colleagues call home, supporting organizations that are addressing the everyday factors that shape wellbeing and making a difference in the Greater Hartford area."

The House of Bread was founded in 1980 by Sister Maureen Faenza, CSJ, and Sister Theresa Fonti, CSJ; on their first day they served coffee and day-old doughnuts to 17 men. Today, the House of Bread serves 1,000 people each day through eight different food, shelter, and education programs in four different buildings in the North and South Ends of Hartford. No one seeking assistance from the House of Bread has ever been turned away.
