HARTFORD, CT — Hartford nonprofit KNOX is seeking donations to help purchase and plant nearly 400 trees across the city this fall, an effort the organization says would be one of its largest planting initiatives in years.
KNOX Executive Director Patrick Doyle said the organization is working with partners to take advantage of the relatively short fall planting season before winter arrives.
The nonprofit's green jobs apprentices and horticulture team expect to plant as many as 10 to 15 trees per day during the effort.
KNOX said donations will help cover the cost of purchasing trees, with material costs alone reaching up to $250 or more per tree.
The organization said the planting effort is intended to provide several long-term benefits:
"The opportunity is here. Our crews are ready," the organization said in its fundraising appeal. "With your support, we can put hundreds of new trees in the ground across Hartford this fall."
KNOX is accepting donations of any amount toward the effort. The organization specifically cited contributions of $25, $50, and $100 as examples of donations that could help support the project. Checks can also be mailed to KNOX Inc., 75 Laurel St., Hartford, CT 06106.
