It will take place at the Old State House, 800 Main St., Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 3 p.m. The public is invited, but registration in advance is requested.

Organizers are accepting applications from Connecticut bakers interested in participating in this year's event.

There is no required flavor profile, allowing contestants to choose their own ingredients and recipes. However, all cake designs must be nonpartisan and incorporate an election theme.

The competition encourages participants to combine baking skills with creative designs inspired by voting, elections and American democracy.

Previous entries have featured elaborate red, white and blue decorations, patriotic symbols, voting-themed cookies and other designs.

Organizers are encouraging both professional pastry chefs and licensed home bakers to apply.

The competition will take place at Connecticut's Old State House in Hartford. The announcement did not specify an event time.
