DNA Analysis Of Teen's Fetus Leads Police To Charge East Hartford Resident: EHPD

Man faces sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor charges related to November 2021 incident.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — DNA analysis of a teen girl's aborted fetus led police to charge a 50-year-old East Hartford man with sexual assault, among other charges, this week, local police said.

According to an East Hartford Police Department statement released Friday afternoon, local resident William Colon, 50, was charged via an arrest warrant with three counts of second-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Police said Colon was located in East Hartford Tuesday and was taken into custody without incident.

He is being held on $250,000 bond.

Police said the investigation of Colon started on Nov. 29, 2021, when the EHPD's special investigations unit started investigating the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in East Hartford.

As a result, police said they identified Colon as a primary suspect, according to police.

The EHPD said the juvenile victim became pregnant and "later terminated the pregnancy."

"DNA analysis on the fetus concluded William Colon was the biological father," police said in Friday's released. "Colon later confessed to the sexual assault."

This prompted the formulation of an arrest warrant that led to Colon's arrest this week.
