GREATER HARTFORD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Seven students from Eastern Connecticut State University participated a summer research institute that involved making a short film using motion-capture technology. The group made a three-minute noir-esque film that showed a 3D-rendered detective frog (the frog, a symbol of Willimantic) performing motion-captured actions such as drinking a martini, smoking a pipe and dancing. Among the participants was Jenique Blair of East Hartford, who majors in New Media Studies.

Marist College, Poughkeepsie NY

  • Mei Wheaton of Hartford received a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Merchandising from Marist College the weekend of May 18.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) began its 150th Commencement celebrations with the graduate students' ceremony on Thursday, May 10, awarding nearly 830 master's and doctoral degrees. Adrian Laboy of Bloomfield was awarded a master of science degree in systems engineering, and Erica Prevost of Bloomfield was awarded a master of science degree in systems engineering.
  • On Saturday, May 12, on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) campus quadrangle, over 1,000 bachelor's degrees were awarded during the university's 150th commencement ceremony. Three were awarded to local residents: Gillian Colman of Bloomfield was awarded a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering; Thomas Leonard of East Hartford was awarded a bachelor of science degree in actuarial mathematics with high distinction; and Katherine Pelissari of East Hartford was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in environmental and sustainability studies with distinction.
