Around the Campuses: Greater Hartford College Students

GREATER HARTFORD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• Thirty student interns and volunteers from Eastern Connecticut State University participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program this past spring, serving 1,317 people who received $2,934,056 in refunds and credits. Among the students were Anamel DeLeon of East Hartford, who majors in Finance; Thanh Le of Hartford, who majors in Accounting; and Okehlia Scarlett of Hartford, who majors in Exploratory Prof. Studies. VITA volunteers are IRS-certified and provide free tax-preparation and submission services to lower-income families and individuals.

St. Lawrence University, Canton NY

• Emma Ventres Filler of Bloomfield has been selected for inclusion on St. Lawrence University's Dean's List for academic achievement during the spring 2018 semester. Filler is a member of the Class of 2020 and is majoring in economics and business in the liberal arts. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have completed at least four courses and have an academic average of 3.6 based on a 4.0 scale for the semester.
