Bloomfield Movie Theater Closes Permanently: Report
AMC Classic Bloomfield 8 has closed after its final showing earlier this week.
BLOOMFIELD, CT — A Bloomfield movie theater has permanently closed, according to The Hartford Courant. The last showing at AMC Classic Bloomfield 8 was on Monday.
The AMC chain did not reveal why the theater shut down. The theater's website says: "We hope to see you at our next nearest location: AMC Plainville 20."
The movie industry was hit hard by the pandemic, with at least three theaters going out of business since March 2020. Most recent was Regal Cinemas in Branford, which closed in January.

However, the industry has seen a bounce back in recent months: AMC Entertainment reported fourth-quarter revenues of nearly $1.2 billion, about seven times higher than the fourth quarter of 2020, The Hartford Courant reported.
The theater originally opened in 1996 in the Wintonbury Mall, showing first-run films for Entertainment Cinemas, but shut down 10 years later. The theater reopened in 2008 under new ownership following extensive renovations.
