24 Displaced As Fire Rips Through Hartford Neighborhood: HFD: UPDATE

HARTFORD, CT — Fire tore through a Hartford neighborhood early Thursday morning, displacing several people and forcing folks to flee into the streets.

The two-alarm fire in Hartford’s Clay Arsenal neighborhood displaced six families early Tuesday morning, according to the Hartford Fire Department.

Firefighters responded around 3:09 a.m. to a reported structure fire at 40-42 Bedford St., where crews found heavy flames coming from rear porches on all three floors of the building, officials said.

The fire spread into upper floors and extended into a neighboring structure, prompting command officers to strike a second alarm as firefighters launched interior and exterior attacks to contain the blaze, officials said.

The Hartford Fire Department said crews worked under difficult conditions to stop the fire from spreading further and protect nearby homes.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, officials said.

Firefighters also rescued one dog from the neighboring building during the incident.

According to the department and the American Red Cross, 19 adults and five children from six families in the two affected buildings were displaced by the fire.

The American Red Cross, CT Transit, and Hartford police assisted residents with emergency shelter, transportation, traffic control, and scene management.

Firefighters completed primary and secondary searches of both buildings and confirmed all occupants had safely evacuated, the department said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
