Police ID Suspect In Capital Police Officer Attack: Police

HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford woman has been charged after authorities said she tried to stab a Connecticut State Capitol Police officer through the window of his cruiser Wednesday morning before attempting to steal another police vehicle.

Tiera Latimer, 34, of Hartford, was being held on a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Thursday at Hartford Superior Court, according to an update released by the Connecticut State Capitol Police Department.

The incident occurred at about 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, while an officer was conducting a high-visibility patrol at the intersection of Armory Road and Michael J. Fallon Way on the Capitol Complex, police said.

According to police, Latimer approached the officer's cruiser armed with a knife and attempted to stab him through the driver's side window.

Police said she continued stabbing at the window until the knife broke. During the incident, Latimer repeatedly yelled, "Kill me," according to the department.

The officer was not injured.

Latimer then fled on foot, prompting officers to pursue her while attempting to de-escalate the situation, police said.

During the encounter, she also attempted to steal a police cruiser, according to authorities.

Officers ultimately deployed a Taser and took Latimer into custody.

She was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation before being processed on criminal charges, police said.

Latimer was charged with:

• Criminal attempt to commit assault of a public safety officer.
• Criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault.
• Second-degree threatening.
• Second-degree criminal mischief.
• Criminal attempt to commit first-degree larceny.

She was scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.

The charges are allegations, and Latimer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
