In this evening exploring ‘new music’—bridging Western classical music with experimental, global, and electronic elements—Williams honors and celebrates Morton Feldman at 100. She selected Triadic Memories as a representation of Feldman’s minimalist approach to new music, described as the “biggest butterfly in captivity.” His piece evolves through repetitions and slight changes in patterns and chords that captivate the audience. Williams grew up as a mentee of Feldman, a major figure in mid-20th-century classical music. Throughout his career, he explored minimalism alongside classical music and ambient influences, incorporating silence and sounds of the world to give audiences a deeply meditative sonic experience.
