Hurricane Henri, which is projected to be the most severe storm to hit Connecticut in many years, is expected to arrive in Hartford on Sunday during the day. Power outages and flooding is expected in Hartford during and after the storm, and all City departments are working hard to prepare in partnership with Eversource, the MDC, and the State of Connecticut.

- Make sure you have enough basic necessities, including non-perishable food and water
- Make sure phones and flashlights are charged before the hurricane hits
- Move your car to higher ground if it is parked in an area prone to flooding
- Remove valuable items from basements in case of flooding
- If there are catch basins near your home, clear them of debris if you are able to
- During the storm, do not leave your home unless absolutely necessary, and if you can not see road markings while driving turn around
- The Department of Public Works as well as the MDC are working to clear catch basins as well as streets of debris to allow water to run into the sewer system as easily as possible, as well as prepping critical City facilities and preparing to respond to down trees.
- The City is setting an emergency shelter, as well as a back up shelter, in the event that significant numbers of residents need to be evacuated from their homes
- The Police and Fire Departments are preparing to help residents in the event they need to be rescued from vehicles or homes, including the preparation of two rescue vehicles
- The City’s Emergency Operations Center will be in operation beginning Saturday to coordinate activities between departments and other partners
- The City will be bringing in staff across all relevant departments so that there is adequate staffing for the duration of the storm and its aftermath
