College Unveils Full Scholarships For Hartford Students, Partial Aid For CT Residents

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford students admitted to Trinity College will be eligible for financial aid covering their full tuition, housing, and meals under a new initiative announced by the college.

Trinity announced Sept. 9 that it is launching three financial aid programs for students applying for the 2027-28 academic year, including benefits for Hartford residents, students from much of Connecticut and children of eligible Trinity employees.

The college also said it will eliminate its application fee for all applicants.

Under the new Hometown Hartford program, admitted students whose primary residence is in Hartford will receive financial support covering full tuition, housing and meals.

Trinity said the initiative builds on its existing partnerships with organizations serving Hartford students, including Capital Squash, Hartford Youth Scholars and Hartford Promise.

"Hartford is our home. Our histories and futures are intertwined with one another. When one of us rises, so should the other," Trinity College President Dan Lugo said.

Lugo pointed to Hartford residents' financial support for construction of Trinity's campus in the 19th century and said the new program continues that relationship.

"I am thrilled that we can continue to honor this history and to support our city and community with our own investment to expand access for students from Hartford to receive a world-class college education right in their hometown," Lugo said.

Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said the program would help reduce financial barriers for city students.

"By guaranteeing full scholarships for our Hartford students through the Hometown Hartford program, Trinity is breaking down financial barriers and building a direct bridge to opportunity for our young people," Arulampalam said.

A second initiative, Centered in Connecticut, will provide half-tuition grants to all admitted students whose primary residences are in Hartford County or the adjoining counties of Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Tolland.

Trinity said the program is intended to make the college more affordable for high-achieving students from the region.

The third initiative, Honoring Our Own, will provide full tuition remission to children of Trinity faculty and staff who have completed at least three consecutive years of full-time employment at the college. Students must be admitted to Trinity to receive the benefit.

All three programs will be available to eligible students applying for the 2027-28 academic year.
