Convicted Felon Shot in Hartford

A man with 18 prior arrests in the city was shot early Tuesday morning.

HARTFORD, CT — A convicted felon with 18 previous arrests in Hartford was shot early Tuesday morning on James Street, police said.

At 2:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 69 James Street on multiple calls from citizens about shots fired, as well as notifications from the Shot Spotter system. On arrival, officers located multiple casings, blood evidence, cellphones and a plastic bag likely containing crack cocaine in the parking lot of that building, Deputy Chief Brian Foley said.

Shortly thereafter, a victim arrived at Hartford Hospital by private transport with non-life threatening injuries to his right arm and right leg. He was unable to give any description of the suspect(s) and stated he had no idea who would want to shoot him, Foley said.

The victim was not identified by name, but Foley said he is a 35-year-old convicted felon from Tolland Street in East Hartford with 18 previous arrests in Hartford.

The Major Crime Division was notified and responded to the scene. Two vehicles with bullet hole damage were towed and evidence was collected. Evidence on scene indicates an exchange of gunfire, Foley said.
