Highway Crash In Hartford Caused By Fatal Shooting: Reports: UPDATE

The accident shut down all of I-84 east in nearby West Hartford, with the cause, according to police, being a fatal shootout.

HARTFORD, CT — One person is dead, according to a local news report, and traffic on Interstate 84 in Hartford is slowed Friday afternoon following a serious single-vehicle wreck that is, reportedly, tied to a shooting in Hartford.

WVIT Channel 30 and WTIC AM 1080 both report that one person was dead due to the incident, with the crash being part of a shooting in the city.

WFSB Channel 3, citing Hartford police, said the situation was caused by an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of two vehicles traveling on the highway, resulting on one person being fatally shot.

Earlier that day, two people were shot in killed in a separate incident in Hartford, with several dying at the hands of gunfire this summer.

As for the crash, the DOT reports the accident happening on I-84 east between exits 46 and 48, initially resulting in the right lane being closed, but eventually resulting in that whole highway's closure on that side as police investigate.

The incident was first reported at 1:58 p.m.

The DOT reports traffic was backed up over 3 miles at its worst, all the way Exit 41 of I-94 east.

Police said the highway was actually closed at Exit 44 in West Hartford.
