CT Children's Hospital Welcomes New Cardiac Surgeon

HARTFORD, CT - Connecticut Children’s is excited to welcome Raina Sinha, MD to its growing cardiology care team just in time for national Heart Month.
Dr. Sinha, who officially joined Connecticut Children’s on February 1, is the hospital’s first female pediatric cardiovascular surgeon and one of only 17 female pediatric cardiovascular surgeons practicing in the United States. Currently, women comprise just 5.2% of congenital heart surgeons throughout the country and 19% of all surgeons, according to the American Medical Association. Dr. Sinha will serve as a member of Connecticut Children’s Cardiac Surgery team alongside the team’s Clinical Director, Dennis Mello, MD.

“It is a privilege and honor to welcome Dr. Sinha to Connecticut Children’s” said Dr. Christine Finck, Surgeon-in-Chief at Connecticut Children’s. “Her expertise will bring immense value to our Cardiovascular Surgery program, allowing us the opportunity to treat patients with the most complex conditions, close to home.”
Dr. Sinha earned her bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University and medical degree from Drexel University. She brings additional experience to the expert cardiology team in such areas such as complex neonatal cardiac defects, valve repair and adult congenital heart surgery.

Connecticut Children’s was recently one of the first adult congenital heart disease programs in the country to be accredited as an ACHD Accredited Comprehensive Care Center by the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA).
