CT Man Sentenced To Prison For Fentanyl Dealing: Feds

A man who sold fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose has been sentenced to prison.

HARTFORD, CT — A former Sprague man has been sentenced to five years in prison for dealing fentanyl, according to a statement from federal prosecutors. Christopher Dubicki, 37, will also serve four years of supervised release.

The FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Norwich Police Department launched an investigation after several fatal and non-fatal overdoses occurred in a short period of time in eastern Connecticut.

Norwich police officers responded to a residence on the report of an overdose in July 2017. The victim, a 34-year-old male, was transported to the hospital where he died.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the victim’s cause of death to be “acute fentanyl intoxication.”

An investigation found that Dubicki sold the fentanyl to the victim. He was one of several dealers from Eastern Connecticut who traveled to Hartford to purchase drugs, then sold the drug to customers in the Norwich and New London areas, according to prosecutors.

As part of a larger federal investigation, law enforcement made multiple controlled purchases of fentanyl from Dubicki. A court-authorized search of Dubicki’s home in 2018 revealed about 650 glassine bags of fentanyl.

Dubicki has been detained since his arrest May 7, 2018. He later pleaded guilty to fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine distribution charges.
