CT Open House Day at 7 Connecticut Landmarks’ Historic Properties

Along with more than 200 other organizations and attractions throughout the state, explore the rich heritage of: the Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden in Bethlehem, the Butler-McCook House & Garden and the Isham-Terry House in Hartford, the Buttolph-Williams House in Wethersfield, the Hempsted Houses in New London, the Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry and the Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden in Suffield.

This exciting statewide event, sponsored by the Connecticut Office of Tourism (COT), is designed to broaden awareness among residents of Connecticut’s exceptional cultural and tourism assets and encourage them to become ambassadors who share their newfound discoveries with visiting family and friends. To qualify for any Open House Day special, at least one person in each visiting group must show a valid Connecticut driver’s license.

Connecticut Open House Day also includes opportunities to become a Connecticut Ambassador as part of COT’s Ambassador Program, an ongoing initiative designed to cultivate pride among residents in the state’s many diverse historic, arts, tourism and entertainment treasures.

· Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden, 12 – 4 pm, 2-for-1 admission for CT Residents

· Butler-McCook House & Garden, 12 – 4 pm, Free

· Buttolph-Williams House, 10 am – 4 pm, half price admission in partnership with the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum

· Hempsted Houses, 12 – 4 pm, Free

· Isham-Terry House, 10 am – 12 pm, 2-for-1 admission for CT Residents

· Nathan Hale Homestead, 12 – 4 pm, Free

· Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden, 1 – 4 pm, Free

The Hempsted Houses will be offering additional programming on Open House Day. Join us as we celebrate Juneteenth and highlight the African-American history of the Hempsted Houses and the neighborhood with the New London NAACP and New London’s OIC (Opportunities and Industrialization Center) from 12 to 4 pm. Our Juneteenth Celebration features Joseph McGill of the Slave Dwelling Project, a dramatic performance of Joan Jackson by storyteller Tammy Denease, non-profit tabling, food provided by the OIC and the New London Lion’s Club, music by Shades of Joy and DJ Frank Lo, a performance by the Lion’s Den Dancers and students from Writer’s Block Ink, games and art activities for families by Expressiones Cultural Center, tours of the houses, and much more.
