Downtown Hartford Bar Changes Its Name To Support Ukraine

The Russian Lady has made a name change in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

HARTFORD, CT — Downtown Hartford bar The Russian Lady has changed its name in a gesture of support for the Ukrainian people, according to FOX 61. The bar's general manager said he thought it was "a little bit in poor taste to stay The Russian Lady in these sensitive times."

The bar, which has been in business since 1976, will now go by The Ukrainian Lady. They're also planning a fundraiser to support Ukraine, FOX 61 reported.

The name was connected to an original owner of the bar whose mother was Russian, according to NBC CT. When his boyhood friends would come over, they would refer to her as the Russian lady.
