Drama In CT Governor's Race And Our Last Day To Register To Vote

The Connecticut governor's race is heating up to a nail-biting finish. Today is also the last day to register to vote besides Election Day.

HARTFORD, CT — The latest Quinnipiac University Poll results bode well for Republican governor candidate Bob Stefanowski who is closing in on Democrat Ned Lamont with a week to go before Election Day. Lamont leads Stefanowski 47 percent to Stefanowski's 43 percent.

"This race is looking a lot like the last two elections for governor in Connecticut - a real nail-biter," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, PhD.

Independent candidate Oz Gribel's poll numbers have slipped back into the single digits at seven percent.

Among independent voters 43 percent support Stefanowski, 38 percent for Lamont and 13 percent for Griebel.

"Independent candidate Oz Griebel is no longer in double digits. Will he end up fading by Election Day, as often happens to third party candidates? If so, that could end up benefitting Democrat Ned Lamont, who is the second choice of Griebel voters."

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy leads Republican challenger and businessman Matthew Corey by a comfortable 15 percent margin.

Last Day To Register To Vote

Today, Oct. 30 is the last day to register to vote in Connecticut. Online voter registration must be completed before midnight. Prospective voters can also make it in-person today or have mailed in registration postmarked today.

Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but it doesn't guarantee the right to vote. A normally registered voter can vote so long as they are in line by 8 p.m. Those who aren't registered by 8 p.m. won't be able to vote. Several voters have learned that lesson the hard way in the past.
