Drug Dealer Pleads Guilty To Escaping Bloomfield Halfway House: Feds
The 29-year-old suspect was apprehended last month in Hartford after escaping custody in September 2023.
HARTFORD/BLOOMFIELD, CT — A convicted drug dealer who escaped from a Bloofield halfway house and ended up being apprehended in Hartford has pleaded guilty to charges related to that incident.
Vanessa Roberts Avery, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut, said Tuesday that Hector Santiago, 29, pleaded guilty Monday in Hartford federal court to escaping from the custody of the attorney general.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on Nov. 18, 2019, Santiago was sentenced in Hartford federal court to 69 months of imprisonment for a narcotics trafficking offense.

According to Avery, on June 23, 2023, Santiago was transferred from the U.S. Penitentiary in Lee, W.V., to the Drapelick Center, a halfway house in Bloomfield, to complete his custodial sentence.
On Sept. 27, 2023, Santiago left the facility and failed to return. He was located and arrested in Hartford on Feb. 9 and has been detained since his arrest.

At sentencing, which is not scheduled, Santiago faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years.
