East Hartford Gun Trafficker Sentenced

He shot a man who had robbed him during a marijuana deal, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — East Hartford man Daniel Vazquez, 21, was sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in a gun trafficking ring and shooting in 2016.

Vazquez was robbed at gunpoint while trying to purchase marijuana to redistribute, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office. Vazquez saw his robber in July 2016 in East Hartford and shot him. He was arrested the same date and two handguns were found at his residence.

Vazquez and others purchased guns advertised for sale on a website in Minot, North Dakota and helped transport them to Connecticut. Two of the five guns were found in Vazquez's residence.

He pleaded guilty in state court to possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
