EAST HARTFORD, CT — An East Hartford man pleaded guilty in federal court to sex trafficking a minor.Alexander Pedraza, 28, promoted prostitution of a 16-year-old girl on Backpage.com and had sexual contact with the victim, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office. He rented hotel rooms in Hartford, Windsor and East Windsor during March 2017.Pedraza engaged in sex trafficking of at least two 18-year-old females between September and December 2016 as well, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.He has been detained since his arrest in May 2017 and faces a minimum mandatory prison term of 10 years and a maximum term of life.Image via Shutterstock

We’re excited to invite students in&nbsp;grades 4–7&nbsp;to campus for&nbsp;S.P.A.R.K.—a free, hands-on&nbsp;morning of discovery&nbsp;at Kingswood Oxford on&nbsp;Saturday, May 16.
S.P.A.R.K.&nbsp;stands for&nbsp;Science. Play. Action. Research. Knowledge,&nbsp;and that’s exactly what the morning is all about. Students will dive into interactive labs, ask big questions, and explore how science connects to the world around them.
Throughout the morning, students will rotate through all three engaging sessions:
Snack Science: Cracking the Code of Carbs, Fats &amp; Proteins
Students will test everyday foods to uncover the building blocks of life - carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins.
From Cabbage to Chemistry: A Color-Changing Exploration of pH
Using red cabbage as a natural indicator, students will experiment with acids and bases and watch chemistry come alive in vibrant color.
Air Apparent: The Invisible Force All Around Us
Through hands-on experiments, students will explore the properties of air—and discover just how powerful something invisible can be.
