Hartford Father, Son Dead After Monday's Fire: Reports

An online fundraising campaign has been set up by a Southington garden center to help the family of the victims, one of whom worked there.

HARTFORD/SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Hartford man who was a well-liked worker at a Southington garden center and his 13-year-old son died following a Bulkely Avenue house fire on Monday.

WTNH Channel 8 has identified the victims as 36-year-old Jose Gonzales, who died Monday, and his 13-year-old son Jose Gonzales Jr., who died Wednesday.

The blaze was just before 1 a.m. Monday at a two-story home on Bulkeley Avenue, WTNH reports.

The elder Gonzales worked at Winterberry Gardens in Southington and his co-workers earlier this week set up a GoFundMe page to collect donations to help out the Gonzales family.

Left behind were Gonzales' wife and 4-year-old daughter, who were both injured in the blaze, according to the GoFundMe page.

"We tragically lost one of our employees to a house fire. His family was also injured in the fire," wrote Winterberry Gardens via GoFundMe.

"They need all the support we can give them to pay future bills including hospital and new housing costs."

As of Friday morning, $15,876 had been raised toward a $25,000 goal.
