Five Rescued From Hartford Apartment Fire

No injuries reported and Saturday PM blaze is under investigation.

HARTFORD, CT — Five people were rescued from an apartment fire on Preston Street in Hartford this afternoon , with the cause of the blaze still under investigation.

According to the City of Hartford Fire Department's Facebook page, several units were called to 270 Preston St., which is a three-story, brick apartment building, for a working fire.

Fire officials said the blaze started in the kitchen of a third-floor apartment that ended up creating a heavy smoke condition in the building's common hallway.

Four adults and one child had to be rescued, with two of them rescued by an exterior ladder truck bucket, one via a ground ladder and two from the front stairwell inside, firefighters said on Facebook.

No one was seriously hurt in the fire and all were evaluated by Emergency Medical Services personnel at the site.

"Fire was quickly knocked down and is now under control," wrote the fire department on Facebook shortly before 1:30 p.m. "We had no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Excellent work by everyone on scene."

The city's fire marshal's office is investigating the blaze.
