Footwear With Care Holds Boot Party For Homeless

Homeless adults and children will be able to enjoy boots and free foot screenings at Holy Trinity Church on December 10.

From Footwear With Care: On Saturday, Footwear with Care (FWC) is holding an enormous boot party and foot screening clinic for homeless children and adults at Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capitol Ave., Hartford from 8:30 a.m. to noon. More than 250 people are expected at the event that also will be staffed by area podiatrists.

Decent footwear and footcare are unmet, critical needs among the homeless. These needs intensify in winter because many homeless people lack cars and walk just about everywhere-- in snow, sleet and freezing temperatures.

FWC http://www.cpa-ct.org/FootwearWithCare/ was inspired by a single act of kindness—a city cop’s gift of new shoes to a homeless, fellow vet who had only a pair of beat-up flip-flops.

Now operated by the nonprofit Community Partners in Actionhttp://www.cpa-ct.org/ FWC has put decent shoes and boots on more than 400 homeless individuals in Hartford since last January; its medical volunteers have provided more than 250 screenings.

FWC teams up a big-hearted, popular running shoe store, FleetFeet of West Hartford, http://www.fleetfeethartford.com/ the Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association and Hartford Police.

For the past four weeks, the FWC team also has been collecting boots throughout the area via donation boxes and a Stuff-a-Cruiser event. It also has been receiving donations online at

Individuals are referred to the boot party by city shelters, community partners staff who work with the homeless and Hartford officers.
