Girls On The Run Greater Hartford Builds Momentum For Season

Girls on the Run Greater Hartford, a physical activity-based positive youth development program for 3rd-8th grade girls, is gearing up for a busy spring season with five new board members, an online auction to raise funds for participant scholarships, and a virtual Sneaker Soiree with special guest speaker.

The Spring Season, which begins March 29th, will mark the 5-year anniversary of the Girls on the Run Greater Hartford Council (GOTR GH), and tenth season of programming for girls in Greater Hartford and New Haven communities.

Additions to the Board of Directors

GOTR GH is proud to welcome Hannah Duchanois, Jillian Gilchrest, Allison Maynard, Meghan Price, and Sue Zarnowski to its board of directors. The latest additions to the all-volunteer board bring a diverse skill set ranging from social services to marketing and communications and will help the council grow and inspire more girls to be joyful, healthy and confident.

“I truly love the mission of GOTR. I want to be involved in a non-profit focused on the development of girls and/or health. This is the perfect 2 in 1 combo,” says Sue Zarnowski new board member from West Hartford. Girls on the Run programs help girls develop key life skills including cultivating confidence, responding to oneself and others with care and creating positive connections with peers and adults.

Annual Online Auction to Benefit Participants

The annual GOTR GH Charity Auction begins on February 26th and runs until March 4th. Proceeds from the auction directly benefit program development and participation scholarships, ensuring girls in Greater Hartford & New Haven communities have access to the inspiring Girls on the Run experience. Auction items range from gift certificates to gift baskets and always draw a great response. Girls on the Run Greater Hartford Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary with Virtual Event!

The first Girls on the Run Greater Hartford Sneaker Soiree will be a virtual event held Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 7pm to celebrate the non-profits five-year anniversary. The goal of the event is to raise funds for the council which will support program growth and participation scholarships. This fun and inspiring one-hour event will be a LIVE program, highlighting:

• the launch of the Girls on the Run Greater Hartford Council
• celebrating 5 years of progress and achievements
• a special guest speaker
• and a look at the plans and possibilities for the future of GOTR GH
