Greater Hartford Schools Produce Champions at State Open Track

The State Open indoor track and field championships were contested Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Athletes from five Greater Hartford high schools combined to produce four individual event champions and seven other placewinners at the State Open indoor track and field championships Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

Leon Campbell of Hartford Public won the 55 meter dash in 6.50 seconds, and teamed with Malcolm Grate, Andre Valentine and Zinodene Stewart to capture the 4 x 200 relay in 1:31.89. Kymali Hay of University won the 300 meter run in 35.52 seconds, while Jahleah Harris of Bloomfield won the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 6.25 inches.

  • 2nd - Jillian Mars, Bloomfield, 300 meters
  • 3rd - Monique Anderson, Bloomfield, high jump; East Hartford boys 4 x 200 relay
  • 4th - Kymali Hay, University, 55 meters
  • 6th - Zeandrea Ward, Weaver, 300 meters; Justyce Wilson, Bloomfield, shot put; Andre Valentine, Hartford Public, 300 meters

Top team performances were turned in by the Bloomfield girls and Hartford Public boys, each of whom finished fifth.

Danbury edged Hall to capture the boys team championship, while Greenwich easily outdistanced Danbury to win the girls title.
