H.B. 5416 Was Not Passed

by the Public Health Committee

H.B. 5416 has been announced Dead by the Public Health Committee. Many people gathered at the Legislative Office building last Tuesday March 20th to speak at a Public Hearing against H.B. 5416 "An Act Concerning Deceptive Advertising of Limited Services Pregnancy Centers."

Those in support of Connecticut Pregnancy Centers far out numbered those who were opposed 3 to 1! The NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut released an updated report on Connecticut Pregnancy Centers. Members of Public Health addressed the various inconsistencies and uncooperation to state reporting policy. The point was made; "Why would these women who have reported anonymous claims against these Centers not file a complaint with the Centers themselves or with Public Health?" further, "Why would they report their claims to NARAL Pro Choice Connecticut?"

The Connecticut Pregnancy Centers were able to prove that the handful of "client testimonies" against the Centers were either fabricated or planted as paid NARAL "investigators". The Public Health Committee wasn't impressed.
