Hartford-Area Hospital Earns National Honors for Orthopedics, Prostate Surgery

HARTFORD, CT — Saint Francis Hospital has received multiple national recognitions from Healthgrades for its performance in orthopedic care and prostate surgery, the hospital announced March 26.

The hospital, located at 114 Woodland St., Hartford, was named among America’s 50 Best for Outpatient Joint Replacement and America’s 100 Best for Prostate Surgery.

It also received Specialty Excellence Awards for outpatient joint replacement, outpatient orthopedic surgery, and prostate surgery—placing it in the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide in those categories.

In addition, Saint Francis earned five-star ratings for total knee replacement, total hip replacement, and prostate removal surgery.

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals annually based on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates across more than 30 common conditions and procedures, analyzing data from roughly 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

The rankings are based solely on patient outcomes.

The organization said its 2026 analysis found significant performance gaps between top- and lower-performing hospitals.

If all hospitals performed at the level of five-star facilities from 2022 to 2024, an estimated 230,466 lives could have been saved and 156,797 complications avoided among Medicare patients.
