Hartford Author's Book On City Life To Help Youth Organization
Proceeds of author Susan Carey's latest work will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford

HARTFORD, CT — A local author's latest work is on sale now and its proceeds benefit a Hartford-based youth organization.
Last week, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford hosted a kickoff celebration of Hartford resident Susan Carey's book, "More Than Merely Eyes Can See."
Carey's uplifting work is about the Grace Lutheran Church's "Friday Gatherings," which has been a mainstay in Hartford in the Asylum Hill neighborhood since 2011, according to the club.

It tells the stories of more than 40 people who regularly attend the free community meals at the church and what their lives are like.
Written with "grace, humor, and brutal honesty," Carey's book is more than just dinnertime conversations, but the complexities of life in urban Hartford.

"They challenge the stereotypes spawned by census data and headlines while examining what it takes to build trust and relationships," reads an announcement about the book.
"More Than Merely Eyes Can See offers readers diverse perspectives on racial identity, the shortcomings of charity, opportunities to repair inequitable systems, the power of relationships, and what we can accomplish when we stop to listen."
Proceeds of book sales benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford, a youth organization that oversees several programs to supplement what schools and families offer in youngsters' development.
